Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer and/or their designee, the Psychiatrist is responsible for providing psychiatric services to all assigned clients. The Psychiatrist formulates plans for the psychiatric services. They clinicians on problems related to mental health and prevention of mental health disorders. Psychiatrists serve as the Psychiatric consultant to clinical psychologist and clinical staff. The overriding purpose of this position is to assure that the clinic provides quality care and treatment to all clients suffering with psychiatric symptoms or a DSMIV diagnosis. In addition to providing a full range of direct psychiatric services, the Psychiatrist is responsible for the supervision and monitoring of the quality of care provided by the clinical staff under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer.

Contacts and interactions vary and may involve multiple constituencies such as direct interaction with executive management, community organizers, the general public, patients, physicians, colleagues, assigned staff, vendors, contractors and consultants for the purpose of providing and exchanging information.

Example of Essential Job Functions 

  • Providing direct psychiatric services through the comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment of clients assigned.
  • Assuring the appropriate psycho education for clients, families, staff, and community professionals and lay people.
  • Assuring the involvement of families and other persons of the client’s choice whenever possible, with the client’s consent, in treatment planning.
  • Providing psychiatric leadership to interdisciplinary teams. The staff psychiatrist’s responsibility on a multidisciplinary client team includes treatment team planning and regular reviews which comprehensively address the patient’s biopsychosocial needs.
  • Assuring the clinicians assigned to him/her receive appropriate clinical supervision on a regular basis.
  • Participating in administrative duties as assigned which could include, for example, being a member or chairing committees at the request of the Medical Director.
  • Providing psychiatric in-service training to clinic staff.
  • Serving as psychiatric liaison with community care providers, particularly with regard to continuity of patient care.
  • Identify and advocate for needed resources, including staff, to the Medical Director.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required

  • D. degree
  • Licenses/Certification
  • MD Board Certified Psychiatrist/Public and Private Credentialing.
  • Should have 3 years of experience in providing psychiatric services in a community mental health setting.

Knowledge of FQHC operations, operating principles, guidelines and bylaws. Excellent leadership, customer service, organizational and presentation skills as well as the ability to effectively communicate clinic vision, and motivate others to achieve it organizationally, departmentally, and personally/professionally. Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing). Ability to plan and organize work initiatives to successfully accomplish center/organizational goals and objectives. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and delegate as appropriate. Strong analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills. Ability to identify, develop and implement short/long-term strategic goals and objectives. Ability to develop and maintain customer relationships; influence, build credibility and trust. Ability to think critically as well as apply critical thinking skills. Ability to: ensure and advocate for quality healthcare and services; and, lead and manage a diverse staff.

Licenses and Certifications

  • MD Board Certified Psychiatrist/Public and Private Credentialing.
  • Current CPR certification
  • Maintain a valid MD driver’s license and reliable transportation with valid insurance

Pay & Benefits

  • Pay ranges from $256,900 – $301,612

Staff Requirements:

  • All staff are required to have at least COVID vaccine, PPD, HEP B and flu shot.
  • All staff are required to undergo background screenings to include a drug test.
  • Credentialing process does take approximately 90 days.

Physical Demands

  • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.
  • Ability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull heavy objects more than 75lbs as well as squat, walk, climb, bend, crouch, stoop, kneel, stand, grasp, reach, pull and repetitive motions.
